Time Inconsistent Stochastic Control in Continuous Time: Theory

چکیده
In this paper, which is a continuation of the discrete time paper [4], we develop a theory for continuous time stochastic control problems which, in various ways, are time inconsistent in the sense that they do not admit a Bellman optimality principle. We study these problems within a game theoretic framework, and we look for Nash subgame perfect equilibrium points. For a general controlled continuous time Markov process and a fairly general objective functional we derive an extension of the standard Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, in the form of a system of non-linear equations, for the determination for the equilibrium strategy as well as the equilibrium value function. As applications of the general theory we study non exponential discounting, various types of mean variance problems, a point process example, as well as a time inconsistent linear quadratic regulator. We also present a study of time inconsistency within the framework of a general equilibrium production economy of Cox-Ingersoll-Ross type [6].

Optimal Stochastic Control in Continuous Time with Wiener Processes: General Results and Applications to Optimal Wildlife Management
We present a stochastic optimal control approach to wildlife management. The objective value is the present value of hunting and meat, reduced by the present value of the costs of plant damages and traffic accidents caused by the wildlife population. First, general optimal control functions and value functions are derived. Then, numerically specified optimal control functions and value func...
متن کاملA Queuing Model for Stochastic Location-inventory Problem with Waiting Cost Considerations
This paper presents a three-level supply chain model which includes single supplier, several distribution centers and sets of retailers. For this purpose, by adopting the queuing approach, a mixed nonlinear integer programming model is formulated. The proposed model follows minimizing the total cost of the system by determining: 1) the number and location of distribution centers between candida...
متن کاملMapping Activity Diagram to Petri Net: Application of Markov Theory for Analyzing Non-Functional Parameters
The quality of an architectural design of a software system has a great influence on achieving non-functional requirements of a system. A regular software development project is often influenced by non-functional factors such as the customers' expectations about the performance and reliability of the software as well as the reduction of underlying risks. The evaluation of non-functional paramet...
متن کاملApplication of Stochastic Optimal Control, Game Theory and Information Fusion for Cyber Defense Modelling
The present paper addresses an effective cyber defense model by applying information fusion based game theoretical approaches. In the present paper, we are trying to improve previous models by applying stochastic optimal control and robust optimization techniques. Jump processes are applied to model different and complex situations in cyber games. Applying jump processes we propose some m...

We develop a theory for stochastic control problems which, in various ways, are time inconsistent in the sense that they do not admit a Bellman optimality principle. We attach these problems by viewing them within a game theoretic framework, and we look for Nash subgame perfect equilibrium points. For a general controlled Markov process and a fairly general objective functional we derive an ext...
